Iván Serrano Sáez and ‘El Punkto’, win the first qualifier in the Absolute Spanish Championships

Armando Trapote Mariscal and ‘Conthargo-Blue’ were a close second with Ricardo Jurado Narváez and ‘Zamarano Z’ in third

Competition for the long awaited Absolute Spanish Championship started up today in the grass, David Broome arena with an exciting 1.50m chase class where any faults were added to finish times (C).  The class was kindly sponsored by the ‘Ayuntamiento de Vejer.’ Iván Serrano Sáez and ‘El Punkto’ were the winners in a time of 75.86s and just over one second behind was Armando Trapote Mariscal with ‘Conthargo-Blue’. In third with 76.99s was Ricardo Jurado Narváez with ‘Zamarano Z’;  Julio Arias Cueva with ‘Explosion VH Legita Hof Z’ was fourth and in fifth was Álvaro González de Zárate with ‘Casa Diva PS’.

 

In the provisional classification, times are converted into points. Iván Serrano is on zero followed by Armando Trapote on 0.51 puntos; Narváez 0.57; Arias 0.58 and González de Zárate, 1.23. 

 

The Young Riders were also in this arena in the morning today in a 1.40m chase class. Juan Riva Gil and ‘Victoria D’Argent’ were the winners in a very fast time of 62.11s. Emilio García-Torres Solano with ‘Undigo Vannetais’ were second with an accumulated result of 68.07s including one pole added and Elena Appendino with ‘Pompei Van de Fruitkorf’ was third with 68.98 also including a pole.

 

In the Classic 1.40, section of the Championship, held in the Milton arena, Álvaro González de Zárate was top of the podium, this time riding ‘Stakkaldato PS’ with Javier Gutiérrez Rilo and ‘Merina Star’ close on his heels. Armando Trapote Mariscal with ‘Matilda’ took third place.

 

Gonzalo Menéndez Menéndez and ‘Uthope de la Roque’ were the winners of the Classic 1.30. Marta Bartolomé Redondo with ‘Murano’ and Jaime Astolfi López with ‘Foyal de la Chenee’ took the next two places in this speed class.

 

Cecilia Naveira Pazos and ‘Colterina RZ’; Rocío Sainz de Rozas de la Cámara with ‘Ingela del Maset’ and Alexandra Woivre Gómez with ‘Et Voilá AW’ were the top three in the Classic 1.10.

 

In the first 5yr old Young Horse qualifier 28 went clear.

In the 6 yr old second qualifier, set at 1.35 m (verticals) and 1.30 (oxers); ’Atlanta de Ste Anne’ (‘Atlantic’ x ‘Chellano Z’) took the top place with Luis Fernández Rey, in 84.90s.  Half a second behind was ‘Com Cerena SB Z’ with Guillermo González Alonso and in third was ‘Oh my God’ with Ana Carolina Sandoval Muñoz in 86.02s.

 

In the provisional Championship scores 13 horses go forward with zero faults and the rest sit on 4 faults leaving the final championship results, all to pay for.

 

In the second qualifier for the 7yr olds the winner was ‘Nibali’ with Mariano Martínez Bastida in just 73.45s, well ahead by 4s, of  ‘Nina Tilla’ with Jesús Garmendia Echevarría, who was second, and in third was  ‘Sir Grey Castanoo’ with Kevin González de Zárate.

With these results three horses are on zero in the provisional rankings: ’Pop up’, with Álvaro González de Zárate; ‘Kilahuea de Capellán’ with Santiago Núñez Riva and ‘Nibali’, with Martínez Bastida.

 

Tomorrow is the first Championship final, for the 6yr old Young Horses and the second qualifiers for the Absolute, Young Riders, Classic (1.40, 1.30, 1.20 and 1.10 ) and the 5yr old Young Horses.
