Another intense day unfolded at Dehesa Montenmedio, featuring a broad and highly competitive schedule that once again confirmed the international character of the circuit. Among all the classes, the highlight was the Vejer City Council Trophy, the Big Tour 1.50m class counting toward the Longines FEI Ranking, whose victory headed to Belgium.
The feature class of the day, held in Arena 5 (Milton), brought together more than 90 horse-and-rider combinations. Of these, 33 completed the course without penalties, with the fastest being Belgium’s Axel Vandoorne, who claimed victory with Gaudi de Hus, a son of Toulon out of a Diamant de Semilly mare. Belgium thus secured a major win on a day marked by tight competition and speed.
The best Spanish performance in this class came from Pilar Cordón. The rider from Aragón, very consistent throughout the day, finished ninth with Pica Pica Z, confirming her strong current form.
In the Big Tour 1.45m class, victory went to Britain’s Sophie Evans with Csio Bel, a combination already familiar with winning in this edition and part of the British junior team that won European bronze in 2023 and 2024. The top Spanish rider was Alberto Márquez Galobardes, who placed tenth with Coolboy, a ten-year-old son of Come and Fly.
The 1.40m class had a German flavor thanks to Maximilian Weishaupt, who took the win with Juna van de Heffinck, a promising eight-year-old mare by Bentley van de Heffinck.
Spanish spotlight in the Medium Tour
The Medium Tour featured four classes, and in three of them the González de Zárate brothers once again left their mark. In the most important, the 1.45m, Álvaro González de Zárate claimed victory with the competitive Coralin 8.
In the 1.40m class, the win went to Switzerland’s Jane Richard with Aequitus vh Bergerhof Z, while Álvaro again stepped onto the podium as runner-up with Stakkaldato PS. In the 1.35m, Kevin González de Zárate led the class with Mac, a nine-year-old son of Cardento. French rider Mathieu Billot, with Kaia, completed the list of winners, once again leaving Spain’s Carolina Villanueva and the veteran Voice de Chenaie just shy of victory for the second consecutive day.
The three Small Tour classes produced winners from three different countries. France’s Valentin Pacaud won the 1.30m with Gold Rush PR; Portugal’s Nuno Tiago Gomes took the 1.35m with Dolce vd Sint-Amandshoeve Z; and Belgium’s Louis Lambrecht claimed victory in the 1.40m with Gloria des Joncs.
In the final weekly class for eight-year-old horses, the win went to Snipe des Lilas Blancs, ridden by German rider Kendra Claricia Brinkop. The son of Hamilton du Chapitre thus secured his fourth victory on the circuit—his third in a row—confirming his strong potential.
The CSI1* came into play with two large-entry classes. The 1.20m, with more than 100 participants, had to be split into two rankings: Olympe Zouin Virag won with Drasco, and Yumo Han claimed victory with O-Mero van’t Streyehof. In the 1.10m class, with nearly 90 combinations, the win went to Ella Stanford with Kiekoet.
Young riders also took center stage in the regional pony classes. Ireland’s Anna Moore won the 1.20m with Nero van de Bucxtale; the Netherlands’ Sammy-Jo Seiten took the 1.00m with Hoekhorst Jewel; and Belgium’s Nick Junior Selten won the 0.90m with Roosendaal’s Lollipop.
The Andalucía Sunshine Tour is sponsored by the Government of Andalusia, through the Ministry of Tourism and Andalusia Abroad, and the Provincial Council of Cádiz—an institutional backing that reinforces the international dimension of an event combining top-level sport, economic impact, and tourism promotion.
